Why Do You Write?
“Why do you write?” they asked me,
As my pages I began to fill
“I write not to deliver words
But to hold an emotion still”
“You see”, I said:
“Many thoughts pass through my mind
And yet I can’t feel them whole
So I write to pause the time
And examine them from pole to pole.
Though often it seems
I write not poetry, but poetry writes me
For words may escape my pen
But the poem tells me, my identity.”
